How to work with a voice artist

Most delays on a voice job happen before the session, not during it.

A script still in approval. A brand name nobody has said out loud. A tone described with an adjective that arrives as a question. The list below is not bureaucracy, it is the shortcut: work through it and the recording usually lands the same day, with no second round.

Briefing checklist

Eight points. Paste them into your enquiry; nothing else is needed.

  • Is the script final?

Changes after the session cost time and money. A script still in approval is not a script.

  • Where is it going?

TV, radio, web, trade fair, internal — almost everything follows from this.

  • Territory and duration

Switzerland for a year? DACH for three? Say it early and the quote is right first time.

  • Length or timecode

For spots the exact seconds; for film the picture, or at least an edit list.

  • Tone — with an example

“Serious but not stiff” says little. A link to a spot you like says everything.

  • Pronunciation

Brand, product and personal names, technical terms, foreign words. Two minutes here saves a revision round.

  • Delivery format

WAV 48 kHz/24 bit is standard. If your edit needs something else, say so beforehand.

  • Deadline

I usually deliver the same working day. If it is tighter than that, ask — it usually works.

Three ways to record

  • Send the scriptYou send script and brief, I record and deliver. The fastest route.
  • Remote directionYou listen and direct over Source-Connect, ipDTL, Cleanfeed, Zoom or Teams. You stay at your desk, I stay in the booth.
  • In a studioIf you are mixing anyway, or need several voices at once, I come to your studio.

Delivery

WAV 48 kHz/24 bit as standard, MP3 for approvals, AAF/OMF on request. Usually the same working day, cleanly edited, breaths and fluffs removed. One revision round on the same script is included.

Artificial intelligence

My recordings are not licensed for training speech models and not for voice cloning. That exclusion is in every engagement by default; you do not have to ask for it.

This is not ideology, it is the basis of the trade: a voice in circulation as a clone cannot earn its fee a second time. If your project needs a synthetic voice, say so — then I am the wrong artist for it, and that is fine.
